Helping Google discover your website

Before internet users will be able to find your site using the search box, your site will first need to be indexed by the search engines.

Indexing is the process of the search engine algorithm going through each of your website pages, making a copy of the page, and adding it to its index. It takes time for new sites to be picked up and indexed by the search engines and can take anywhere from a few weeks to a few months and is out of our control.

This is a complex process of sorting through the millions of new sites published every day, figuring out what they are about, indexing and ranking them in order of importance so that the right ones come up at the right time. If you take a moment to imagine the millions of webpages on the internet you can see why this can take some time.

As a new site owner you get to take part in this, using the excellent tools Yola has available to make you successful! You can learn more about what you can do to get your site indexed quickly here: Promotion, SEO, Traffic and Advertising.

Although it takes time for newly published sites to get indexed by the search engines, there is more than one way to get around the internet!

If you or your visitor clicks on a link to your site, or types the URL directly into the address bar of their browser, they will be able to access your site. So, as soon as you start sharing your URL with people, you can start sending traffic to your site right from the first day! It is really live on the internet for all the world to see, even though the search engines are still learning about it.
