Using the Flickr widget
The Flickr widget allows you to quickly and easily create a slick photo gallery with thumbnails that link to larger images. Before starting in the Sitebuilder, you need to first create a Flickr account and upload your pictures at flickr.com.
Here's how to add the Flickr widget to your page:
1. Go to Widgets.
2. Select Media from the drop-down menu.
3. Drag and drop a Flickr widget onto your page.
4. In the dialog box that opens up, click Settings (located above the blue "Save" button).
5. In the Settings dialog box, you have the following options:
- Search Phrase: Enter the tags of the photos you want to pull from Flickr (make sure you have added tags to your Flickr photos or you will not get the desired result).
- User Email: Enter your Flickr account email address.
- Max Results: Click on and drag the sliding bar to enter the number of images you want to display. Please note that the maximum number of photos Flickr will allow you to display in one gallery is 30.
- Columns: Click on and drag the sliding bar to specify how many columns (1 - 12) you want for your photo gallery.
- Size: Select the image size you would like for your thumbnails - Small, Medium, or Large.
- Framed: Check this if you wish for your thumbnails to have white borders.
6. Click Save to update your photo gallery.
Now save and preview your page. You will have a gallery of clickable images. In the top right hand corner of the large view of the images, click the Next button to view the next image in the gallery.
Click Close when you are finished browsing through your gallery.
Using the Flickr Search widget:
This particular Flickr Search widget operates very similarly to the Flickr widget. The difference lies in how your pictures are displayed. In the Flickr Search widget, your images are displayed in a tiling effect, rather than in a lightbox effect. As a result, when you click on the thumbnail picture, a new tab or window will open, taking you directly to the large-sized version in Flickr. Here are the steps to add this to your site:
1. Go to Widgets.
2. Select Media from the drop-down menu.
3. Drag and drop a Flickr Search widget onto your page.
- Margins: The amount of space added around the outside of the widget.
- Align: Select left, center or right alignment for your pictures.
6. Click Save to update your photo gallery.
Please note:
- If there are privacy settings on your Flickr photos the search will not be successful. The photos need to be publicly available for it to work.
- It's best to use a one-word tag and apply this word to all the photos you want to show up in your gallery.
